MEET THE FOUNDER

Dr. Md. Shajahan Kabir is an educator, Social activist and a propagator of religious harmony through tolerance and respect to every other religion. He was born on 9th March, 1947 at Harirampur in Manikganj district.
He had his graduation from Ananda Mohan College and Masters from Dhaka University. Subsequently he achieved his P.H.D from Rabindra Bharati University of India. He joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1977 and worked in a wide spectrum of administrative functions of the Government in different corners of the country.
Having retired from service in 2007, he founded the Old Home at his Native Village, Toke, Kapasia, with the aim to serve the old, poor and the destitute abandoned in society today. He is also the author of a number of books that advocate religious harmony, social tranquility and economic upliftment of the backward people. Moreover, he works around the clock to empower the backward children of the village to get better education and state-of-the art facilities to facilitate skill development with a special look for robust English Language foundation. He believes that a child’s potential should not be limited by their geography. To bridge this gap, he works relentlessly to build an English Medium School in the village which is in line with the rich cultural heritage of Shantiniketon commensurating the thoughts of Poet Rabindranath Tagore. As an ardent follower of the poet Rabindranath Tagore, his dream was to recreate the magic of Santiniketan and eventually founded a spectacular cultural center in the vicinity of that of school. The center is dedicated to the traditional Bengali arts that were central to the rich Bengal heritage, imparting lessons in Classical Dance, Rabindra Sangeet (singing), Recitation (Abritti), and Fine Arts. To the attainment of these goals, he is profoundly helped by his daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren and a benevolent cousin of his who was also a military genius. He believes that the world is a book and those who don’t travel read only a page. As a result he had the opportunity to visit a plethora of countries so far and procured rare souvenirs, artifacts, coins, postal stamps and books of knowledge. All of these are collectively displayed in the museum within the old home premises. Apart from this, he tries to make time to play golf even at the age of 80! It is his belief that exercise is also a form of medication.
